Vasily Stepanov was born in Kazan. A graduate of the Moscow Conservatory (classes of Professor Natalia Shakhovskaya and Boris Andrianov) and an assistant-internship at the Moscow Conservatory (class of Boris Andrianov). He studied at the Reina Sofia High School of Music in the class of Jans-Peter Mainz (Madrid).
He has performed with famous conductors, namely: Yuri Bashmet, Christian Knapp, Alexander Sladkovsky, Alexander Titov, Maxim Fedotov, Dimitris Botinis, Alim Shakhmametyev, Eduard Grach, Theodor Kurrentzis, Julian Galant, Rustem Abyazov.
Participated in master classes by Sergey Roldugin, David Geringas, Jans-Peter Mainz, Martti Rousey, Gauthier Capuson, Nils Ullner, Torlief Tiedeen.
Laureate of international competitions, including the winner of the Mravinsky Competition (St. Petersburg, 2012) and the "Riga classic strings" competition. Winner of the Second prize of the Third All-Russian Music Competition (Moscow, 2018). Winner of the awards of the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation. Performs in the best halls of Russia. He has performed solo concerts in the United States, Japan, Denmark, Spain, South Korea, Georgia, Estonia, Latvia, France, Tanzania, Serbia, and Moldova. Author a concerts dedicated to the memory of Natalia Shakhovskaya.
