Mithatcan Öcal was born in Hatay, İskenderun, Turkey on 1992 . He studied at Kocaeli University State Conservatory as a part time student then entered the composition class run by Ahmet Altinel at the Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory in Istanbul, where he continues to work for his bachelors degree.
In May 2012 his piece Üngüjin was premiered by the Nieuw Ensemble Amsterdam during the Turkey Now! Festival and Gaudeamus Muziekweek. In March 2013, his piece Parachesis II was premiered by Ian Pace and was awarded first prize at the London Ear Festival Composer's Competition. He has also been selected for the Foundation Royaumont 2013 Voix Nouvelles and ISCM New Music Days 2014.
