Dr. Charles Lwanga is a Ugandan art music composer/theorist and ethnomusicologist. He received his Ph. D in Composition/Theory at the University of Pittsburgh (USA) in 2012, and he is currently a Ph. D candidate in ethnomusicology, also at the University of Pittsburgh. Having studied with Drs. Justinian Tamusuza, Eric Moe, Mathew Rosenblum and Amy Williams, Lwanga is a proponent of blending Western/European and African musical idioms and processes to create a peculiar voice that articulates his social/cultural background. Dr. Lwangas compositions have been performed in the USA, Europe, East and South Africa, as well as in Brazil.
