Klaus Schöpp studied music in Saarbrücken and Berlin. He trained as a flautist under Prof. Roswitha Staege and Prof. Karlheinz Zoeller. Contemporary music is a particular focus of his work. In this field, he performs the latest compositions, improvises, organizes events, and composes. In 1989, he co-founded the Berlin Improvising Composers Ensemble (BICE), and in 1994, he co-founded the modern art ensemble, which he continues to lead as organizer. Since 2006, he has played regularly in Marc Lingk's ensemble "Elektronisches Glück" (Electronic Happiness), which combines improvisation with composition and electronic sounds with acoustic instruments. From 1993 to 2006, he was a member of the Ensemble UnitedBerlin, and in 2001/2002, he was a member of the Konzerthausorchester Berlin. He has premiered numerous solo and chamber music works. Concert tours have taken him to many countries in Europe, America, and Asia. He has recorded a solo CD with works by contemporary Berlin composers (“Cry of Medusa,” kreuzberg records), as well as a duo CD with Yoriko Ikeya featuring contemporary works for flute and piano (“Songs of a Desert Bird,” Edition Kopernikus). Numerous other CD recordings and radio broadcasts are also available.
As a composer, he follows in the tradition of the “composer-performer,” having written numerous works for the Berlin Improvising Composers Ensemble and the modern art ensemble, solo pieces for flute, piano, and cello, and other works for chamber music ensembles. From 2009 to 2013, he studied composition with Conrado del Rosario.
