Felix Kubin (b. 1969 in Hamburg) is a composer, creator of radio plays, performer, media artist and curator. He began recording and performing his first Sound experiments on a 4-track device at the age of 12. Since then, his universe has continued to expand and now encompasses futuristic pop, radio art, electroacoustic music, lecture performances, contemporary chamber music, the interdisciplinary arts and music festival "Papiripar" and the record label "Gagarin Records". In 2010, he was featured on the cover story of the British music magazine THE WIRE. He has appeared at numerous international festivals and museums, including MoMA PS1, Sonar, Transmediale, Moers Festival, Unsound, Wien Modern, MaerzMusik, Présences électroniques, Galerie Nationale du Jeu de Paume and Ars Electronica and was artist-in-residence at Villa Aurora in Los Angeles.
In 2005, Kubin began writing commissioned works for contemporary orchestral music and electronics. He has created exclusive works for Internationales Musikfest Hamburg, MaerzMusik, Art's Birthday, NDR das neue werk, Borealis, Presences Électronique, Elbphilharmonie and the Institut für Medienarchäologie. At the same time, he has been producing radio plays for German national radio and Vienna’s ORF Kunstradio. His radio works won several awards, amongst them Prix Phonurgia Nova, ARD Online Award, Best Radio Play Of The Year and Best Audio Book Of The Year. In 2017, he created and hosted 20 episodes of a live radio show called "Me & My Rhythm Box" for "Savvy Funk", the dOCUMENTA 14 radio.
French filmmaker Marie Losier shot an experimental artist portrait about him called "Felix in Wonderland", which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival in 2019, was broadcast on ARTE, and won several awards at international film festivals. Felix Kubin's music is released (amongst others) on editions Mego, Bureau B, A-Musik, Dekorder, Minimal Wave, ZickZack and his own label Gagarin Records.
