Castagnoli, Giulio
Giulio Castagnoli (born November 22, 1958, in Rome) completed his music studies at the Turin Conservatory in 1982, graduating with diplomas in piano (under Maria Golia [1916–2007]) and composition (under G. Bosco). In 1983, he also completed studies in literature and philosophy at the University of Turin. Castagnoli subsequently earned further diplomas under Brian Ferneyhough at the Freiburg University of Music and, in 1987, under Franco Donatoni at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome. An invitation from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) enabled him to study in Berlin from 1998 to 1999. In 1987, the same year he founded the journal Quaderni di musica nuova, which he still edits today, Castagnoli won the Oscar Back Prize at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam for "Duo per violino solo" and the Premio Valentino Bucchi in Rome for "Bestiario". Since 1984 he has taught composition at the Turin Conservatory and since 1999 at the University of Turin.
