Schumacher, Lutz
Lutz Schumacher, born on January 13, 1968 in Diepholz, Lower Saxony, is a multi-talent in the original sense. In addition to his career in the media sector as CEO of the Ravensburger SV Group (a medium-sized media group with around 4,000 employees in seven federal states), he is the author of successful books that made it onto the Spiegel bestseller lists (including “Senk ju for träwelling” or “If possible, please turn”). He studied business administration with a FH diploma as well as economics with a focus on sales marketing and business psychology for a master's degree.
As a child, Schumacher learned to play the accordion and piano. His passion for classical music has accompanied him since his school days, when he wrote his first pieces for the high school orchestra and small ensembles. From 2016 he took professional conducting lessons from various teachers and has since conducted well over 60 symphony concerts. In the concert series “Stadt.Land.Klassik!” (Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania) and “Schwäbische Klassik Sterne” (Allgäu-Oberschwaben-Bodensee), he also regularly acts as a presenter in the 15 concerts each, bringing the historical context of the works closer to the audience with pointed introductions and entertaining anecdotes. With creative projects, such as his own text version of Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" for adults, he repeatedly shows how classical music can be opened up to a wide audience without fear of contact and with a lot of humor. Schumacher also likes to moderate children's and youth concerts.
Lutz Schumacher's own musical work is characterized by a close connection to the New Philharmonic and new approaches to communication. In November 2024, his Symphony No. 1 in C major, op. 2 celebrated its successful premiere at the Neue Philharmonie and was repeated in nine concerts nationwide. The work is a very personal examination of his childhood and his grandmother, who awakened his love of music at an early age. His latest work, the Concerto in A minor, op.3, for viola and orchestra, followed in 2026. The two tonal, neo-romantic orchestral works are characterized by an emotional, rhythmic style that is sometimes reminiscent of opulent film music.
Lutz Schumacher is married, has two children and lives in Berlin and Ravensburg.
